Crypto can be confusing. Especially when there are so many currencies, wallets, exchanges and new platforms all preaching to be the quickest, easiest and securest.

We spoke with the exchange getting a 9 star customer review, who is focused on making it easier for crypto traders to buy, sell and store over 140 cryptocurrencies.

Derk de Groot, Communications Manager at Bitqist, talks to us about blockchain and crypto adoption in The Netherlands and the exchange created for the non-techie.

“As cryptocurrency traders, we noticed that almost all exchanges claim (or at least have as goal) to be the most advanced cryptocurrency exchange. People we knew, however, mainly had the need for an exchange that is very easy to use. A cryptocurrency platform that is understandable for anyone who also manages their bank accounts online.”

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I am Derk and I am responsible for the communication and marketing strategy of Bitqist.

As cryptocurrency traders, we noticed that almost all exchanges claim (or at least have as goal) to be the most advanced cryptocurrency exchange. People we knew, however, mainly had the need for an exchange that is very easy to use. A cryptocurrency platform that is understandable for anyone who also manages their bank accounts online. Bitqist was created to meet the needs of this group of people.

We want to make the experience of our customers as convenient as possible. Our customers can buy, sell and store more than 140 cryptocurrencies. They no longer need accounts on multiple exchanges to be able to buy, sell and store virtually all unique, innovative and interesting cryptocurrencies. I believe we are the only place where customers can trade such an extensive range of cryptocurrencies for Euro (as well as Bitcoin and USDT). Trades on our platform are instantly executed. The cryptocurrency you buy or the proceeds of the cryptocurrency you sell are immediately added to your account. Check more on our website.

Where do you see cryptocurrencies in 2 years?

I think it is difficult to say where cryptocurrency will be in about two years. There are so many people busy building cryptocurrency-related technology. What I do dare to predict is that the cryptocurrency world will be a lot more mature in the next two years both voluntarily and through new legislation.

Who is using blockchain technology in The Netherlands?

I know of a few companies in the Netherlands that are interested in blockchain technology, such as the Port of Rotterdam (largest port in Europe) and Eneco (one of the largest producers and suppliers of natural gas, electricity and heat in the Netherlands). However, I do not know whether they are really using blockchain technology or that they are experimenting with it. However, I truly believe that we are yet to discover the huge potential of blockchain technology and that blockchain will be the technological revolution many hope for.

It is estimated that about 500,000 people in the Netherlands possess cryptocurrency, so in this sense the Netherlands certainly embraces cryptocurrency. What we do notice, however, is that far fewer people are actively engaged in cryptocurrency at the moment. The most obvious reason for this is the sharp fall in prices.

The future of cryptocurrency in the Netherlands will depend strongly on how the 5th EU Anti-Money Laundering Directive will be implemented in national legislation. A draft version of the legislation was published in December 2018. In the draft version a number of requirements are proposed that are very difficult to meet for a cryptocurrency exchange or broker. For example, an exchange or broker will have to determine the identity of both the sender of an incoming transaction and the identity of the recipient of an outbound transaction. I believe there is no straightforward way to do this (especially for the more privacy-oriented cryptocurrencies). We hope that the eventual implementation of the directive will be less ’strict’ than the draft version.

What is in the future for Bitqist?

We are currently working on adding support for SEPA to our platform. This means that customers can deposit and withdraw Euros into/from their account with Bitqist by bank transfer. This allows us to offer even more ease of use to existing customers and make the threshold for beginners to buy cryptocurrency even smaller. In addition, we will further increase the number of cryptocurrencies that can be bought, sold and stored at Bitqist.

We do not charge any transaction fees the first two months after you sign up, so I would say there is no reason to not try Bitqist out!

Thank you Derk. The Netherlands has always been a powerhouse in innovation, we look forward to seeing how things evolve with Bitqist.
